Session Outline
Sustainability is increasingly a part of standards, qualifications and quality requirements, and its integration into education is being demanded by students and employers. But how do we meaningfully and coherently embed sustainability in teaching? How do we help students learn for, not just about, sustainability, in a way that truly enhances their development and skills?
This presentation will support lecturers working on or interested in embedding Learning for Sustainability (LfS). It will be based around the LfS in colleges guide published in 2026, which breaks LfS down into core principles and stages of development. Whether you're new to LfS or have been embedding it for a long time - this session will help you uncover and celebrate existing efforts, as well as create an action and development plan that feels concrete and 'doable'.
that this presentation role-models or embeds:

Presenter
Kathrin is the Senior Sustainability in Learning and Teaching Lead at the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC). She works with colleges and universities in Scotland and the UK to help embed sustainability into curriculum, campus, culture and community. Kathrin's background is in Psychology and Adult Education for Social Change and she has worked on creating meaningful learning experiences for a better future with various communities across six countries, from a community radio show in Malta to employability support in Scotland. In her current role, she has published flagship pieces such as the first research report on sustainability in Scottish college learning and teaching, the first guide for colleges on embedding Learning for Sustainability, and has successfully run a pilot programme with four Scottish institutions on integrating sustainability into what people already do, rather than as an add on. Kathrin takes a welcoming, strengths based approach that centres on wellbeing and inclusivity - please don't hesitate to share your needs, challenges, wins, and questions.
